Police Week 2015
Acrylic on canvas hand panted pipes and drums for police week
“The Sounds of Sacrifice” Hand painted by john Kiernan of blue line studios, Warrenton VA

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. This year, I dedicate my latest painting to the officer who gives up everything for the cause they sign up for, “The Sounds of Sacrifice”.

Since 1992 I have been attending the NLEOM (National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ) as a Police officer. I have always been moved and feel my emotions take over when I hear the Bag Pipes. For many years I have always wanted to paint the pipes and drums.

I am honored and humbled to paint this piece to honor both police and fire for their outstanding service and without hesitation making the ultimate sacrifice. When the bagpipers start playing everything seems to stand still in silence. This feeling is more prevalent when thinking back to a funeral as they play for Police Week.

I plan to introduce this new piece as a “Collector” edition by printing it on fine paper and hand writing the title on the bottom. These images will be presented in a mat form and ready for framing. I will still make available  larger size on canvas so they can be hand embellished so you can have it customize. I will present this new image on Monday and Tuesday at Reagan National airport followed by the normal viewing during police week. The vendors will be in a secured lot off close to National Stadium. Shuttles will be provided from the memorial and they make it easy and convenient to get back and forth.
