Introducing John Kiernan's original

"The Sounds of Sacrifice"

Since 1992 I have been attending the NLEOM (National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ) as a Police officer. I have always been moved and feel my emotions take over when I hear the Bag Pipes. For many years I have always wanted to paint the pipes and drums.

My father was a Fireman in New York City. During 911 clean-up, I stood next to my father to help out. I took no pictures and just listened to all the stories at the “pick-up” in Manhattan. No emotion can express how one feels when the bag pipes start playing. Grown up catholic in an Irish family bag pipes were part our heritage. I am honored and humbled to paint this piece to honor both police and fire for their outstanding service and without hesitation making the ultimate sacrifice.

In 1911, the “Motor Unit” was established as the first Police Motorcycle Patrol, demanding a high level of honesty, efficiency, interest and hard work by officers. This has continued to this day, which has been the foundation for our world wide reputation in the law enforcement field.

"The Blues"

This piece was painted as a tribute to the men and woman in law enforcement. But most importantly, it was inspired and dedicated to the memory of two fallen heros who made the ultimate sacrifice in May 2006 in Fairfax County.
