The Sounds of Sacrifice

Since 1992 I have been attending the NLEOM (National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial ) as a Police officer. I have always been moved and feel my emotions take over when I hear the Bag Pipes. For many years I have always wanted to paint the pipes and drums.

My father was a Fireman in New York City. During 911 clean-up, I stood next to my father to help out. I took no pictures and just listened to all the stories at the “pick-up” in Manhattan. No emotion can express how one feels when the bag pipes start playing. Grown up catholic in an Irish family bag pipes were part our heritage. I am honored and humbled to paint this piece to honor both police and fire for their outstanding service and without hesitation making the ultimate sacrifice.
